미국 버락 오바마 대통령이 잠시 후 공식 취임식을 갖고 집권 2기의 정책과 포부를 밝힐 예정이다.

 오바마 대통령의 취임식 시간은 워싱턴DC 현지 시간으로 21일 월요일 오전 11시 반, 한국 시간으로는 22일 새벽 1시 반이다.

 오바마의 임기가 시작된 날이 일요일이기 때문에 관례에 따라 월요일에 취임식이 열리게 됐다.

 현재 행사 준비와 경호 점검으로 워싱턴 DC 시내 중심가는 차량 운행이 금지됐고, 취임식이 열리는 의사당 주변은 철제 바리케이드가 설치됐으며, 경비가 한층 강화된 가운데 워싱턴 DC는 대통령 취임식 열기가 한껏 고조되어 있다.

 180만 명이라는 기록적인 인파가 몰렸던 4년 전 취임식 때 보다는 참여자가 절반 정도 줄어들 것으로 보이지만 미국 각지에서 온 국민들은 축제분위기 속에 취임식을 기다리고 있다.

 아서 루이스, 시카고 주민은 "흥분되고 환상적입니다. 분위기가 한껏 고조돼 있고 정말 재미있습니다."고 하였고 

 빌 소벨, 롱 아일랜드 주민은 "더 나은 역동적인, 하나가 되는 미국이 됐으면 합니다. 우리는 강하고 선한 국민들의 나라이며 오바마 대통령은 우리에게 최선의 것을 안겨줄 능력이 있다고 믿습니다." 라고 감격적 표현을 하였다.

 이번 취임식에서 오바마 대통령은 링컨 대통령과 마틴 루터 킹 목사가 쓰던 성경책2권에 손을 얹고 '우리 국민, 우리 미래'라는 주제로 취임 선서를 한다.

 이어 예포가 발사되고 군악대가 대통령 찬가를 연주한 뒤 취임 연설이 이어진다.

 앞으로 4년의 국정 운영 방향과 비전을 밝히는 취임연설에서 오바마 대통령은 '하나의 미국'을 건설하자는 대통합의 메시지를 강조할 것으로 알려졌다.

 뒤이어 상하원 의원들과 축하 오찬을 하고 오후에는 백악관까지 2.7km를 걸어가는 거리행진을 펼칠 예정이다.

The capital was abandoned. The enemy was advancing.
수도는 적군에 빼앗겼고//적군은 진군 중이었으며
The snow was stained with blood.
눈은 피로 물들어 있었습니다
At a moment when the outcome of our revolution was most in doubt,
미 독립의 성공여부가 가장//불확실해 보였던 바로 그 때
the father of our nation ordered these words be read to the people:

"Let it be told to the future world ... that in the depth of winter,

America, in the face of our common dangers, in this winter of our hardship,
미국은 현재 공동의 위험에 직면했고//고난의 추운 겨울을 맞고 있습니다
let us remember these timeless words.

With hope and virtue, let us brave once more the icy currents,

Let it be said by our children's children that when we were tested we refused to let this journey end,
